West's Hephner inaugurates Staff Member of the Month Award
Sally Hephner, West Campus registrar, said she appreciates being named Staff Member of the Month for West Campus, particularly after this year’s sometimes challenging transition from Infinite Campus to Skyward for student record-keeping.
Hephner’s handling of new student registrations, transfers, transcript requests at the start of the school year earned her three recommendations for the award.
West Campus counselors Gary Myers, Stephanie Doczi and Kaitlyn Schak all nominated her after watching Hephner handle her record-keeping duties while helping students who visit the counseling office.
“It was like she was going non-stop, like the Energizer Bunny,” Myers said during the Oct. 21 West Campus faculty meeting when Hephner received her award. “We can’t do what we do without her.”
Hephner said she was very surprised but pleased.
“Everybody has been going out of their way to congratulate me,” she said. “I love my coworkers.”
In addition to handling registrations and transfers, Hephner also processes education verifications, transcript requests, worker permits for young people who aren’t 16, and coordinates the annual Senior Awards night in May.
Hephner has worked for McHenry Community High School District 156 for three years, and as registrar for two years. Three of her four sons attend East Campus, and her eldest is a MCHS graduate.
Hephner was the first staff member at West Campus recognized with the award. Each month, a staff member from both East Campus and West Campus will be selected from recommendations of other staff, students, parents and community members.
Staff members are given a plaque and a gift card from either Brunch Cafe or Meat and Potato Eatery. MCHS appreciates the support from sponsors.
