McHenry Girls Tennis Opens Their Season With A Strong 4-1 Start

The McHenry girls tennis program began a new chapter this weekend under the leadership of head coach and Warrior alum Jon Betts, and the Warriors wasted little time showing their fight.

After a narrow 3-2 loss to Rockford Guilford in the opener, the Warriors rebounded with a dominant 4-1 win over Bolingbrook. The Warriors rolled the momentum from that match into matches with Andrew and Mundelein, winning those by identical 4-1 scores too.

Freshman Grace Betts and junior Lizzie Mueller anchored the lineup with perfect 5-0 starts at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, while doubles teams Briana Freund/Izzie Townsend and Kaitlyn McAuliffe/Sophie Vazquez provided steady depth, combining for key victories throughout the weekend to fuel McHenry’s best season-opening stretch in years.

The girls tennis team will take to the courts again this week, where they will host a double dual between Dundee-Crown, Grayslake North and Marengo.
