MCHS drumline participates in Let's Beat Breast Cancer Rally

McHenry Community High School percussionists are participating in a Let’s Beat Breast Cancer Rally and free event Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park, 3400 Pearl St., in McHenry.

Set for 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., the free event features drumline performances, food trucks, giveaways from sponsoring organizations, and more.  The program is hosted by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and McHenry-based Plantspiration to raise awareness of nutrition and a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of breast cancer.

Organizers said the rally will feature local experts, community advocates, sponsors, and breast cancer survivors for a special event in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.  The “Let’s Beat Breast Cancer: A 4-Pronged Approach” campaign seeks to raise awareness about the four lifestyle steps that can reduce the risk of breast cancer and the risk of recurrence. The 4-pronged approach includes:

1. Eat plant-based foods.

2. Exercise regularly.

3. Limit alcohol.

4. Aim for an ideal body weight.
