Warrior Shack

This Friday during homecoming, McHenry Community High School officially opens the Warrior Shack mobile spirit gear store that will be run by students and sell merchandise mostly made by students.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 5:45 p.m. Sept. 29 during the junior varsity football game at McCracken Athletic Field, 3712 W. Kane Ave., McHenry. It will be open throughout the evening.

Five local businesses and organizations who contributed to the project will also be recognized at the event. They are Black Diamond, The Bremer Team, Buss Ford, Knapheide and the Class of 2023.

Contributions made the purchase of the trailer from Knapheide possible. The trailer will make appearances at home football games and other community events, and it will be easy to recognize with a custom wrap design by Warrior Ink graphic arts students.

Much of the Warrior gear will be made by MCHS Warriors Ink students, although some will be purchased from approved vendors. The trailer operation will be overseen by students in business classes at McHenry Community High School as well as students in the school’s chapter of Business Professionals of America. The operation gives students experience in marketing, accounting, business management and more.

Profits will be used by the Business Professionals of America club to offset costs for local, state and national competitions.

“I'm so excited to bring this opportunity to our students and community. Our vision is for most of our spirit merchandise to be CREATED by students, MADE by students, and SOLD by students,” Business Instructor Vanessa Kirk said.

Junior Jia Shah said it will be so convenient for students and families to be able to buy gear directly from the store, rather than having to order online. “The Shack and trailer gives more opportunities for student leadership, volunteering and service.”

Junior Emma Blanken said she’s looking forward to seeing the Warrior Shack continue to grow.
