Food for Thought food drive

McHenry High School’s Freshman Campus is hosting a food drive on Tuesday, Nov. 21 in conjunction with the Bremer Team Keller Williams Success Team to benefit the MCHS Food for Thought food pantry.

Food for Thought leaders expect this food drive to be the biggest of the year for the food pantry that is operated by MCHS staff to benefit students and families in need.

The food drive will be a drive-through at the Freshman Campus, 1012 N. Green St. Anyone making donations can drive through the typical bus lanes behind the building between 4 and 7 p.m., and student volunteers will come collect food. Students will also distribute pies to those making donations, courtesy of the Bremer Team.

The Bremer Team has conducted this food drive for several years, and now the Freshman Campus is joining.  Students at Freshman Campus can earn service hours for the Be Distinguished initiative. So far, more than 35 students are set to help out.

Dr. Ashley Diedrich, an English teacher and co-director of Food for Thought with Library Media Specialist Cheryl Myers, said this is likely the largest food drive for the pantry. The food pantry provides weekly food distribution to about 15 families currently, but they’ve supported between 10 and 80 families in a given year.
