Adam Bronars, new boys soccer coach

Adam Bronars, a McHenry resident, coach and educator who led the Johnsburg High School boys soccer team to a 1A sectional title in October, is now taking the helm of McHenry Community High School’s boys soccer program.

For Bronars, it will be like coming home since he not only lives in town but has coached for the McHenry-based Northern United FC (NUFC) travel program since 2014. He’s been head boys soccer coach in Johnsburg since 2017.

Bronars said he’s looking forward to working with high school athletes he may have coached in travel soccer.

“It’s just a fantastic opportunity,” he said. “Getting a chance to coach in the place I live – I couldn’t pass it up.”

A social science teacher at Johnsburg High School since 2007, Bronars started coaching high school boys soccer in 2011 while working as an assistant with former Johnsburg boys soccer coach Rob Eastland. As head coach at Johnsburg, Bronars teams were regional champions in 2022 and 2023, in addition to the most recent sectional championship.

For Northern United FC, Bronars coached boys and girls aged 5 through 19. He also played youth soccer.

Chris Madson, McHenry High School District 156 athletic director, said he is impressed with Bronars’ knowledge and skill in soccer and also his ability to build relationships with his players.

“Adam did a great job leading the boys soccer program at Johnsburg High School,” Madson said. “We are very excited to welcome Adam as the new boys soccer coach at McHenry High School.”

Bronars has a SSF National “E” License, and has also coached for the Johnsburg White Lightning Soccer Club from 2015-2016, and was the Johnsburg High School JV soccer coach from 2011 to 2017.

Bronars has a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from University of Illinois Urbana- Champaign, and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from National-Louis University.
