Latin X-Perience in 2023

The Latin American Student Organization at McHenry Community High School is inviting all area high school students to come enjoy an evening of career planning and fun on May 4 at the second annual Latin X-Perience.

Hosted in the cafeteria at McHenry’s Upper Campus, 4724 W. Crystal Lake Road, the event starts with a meet and greet at 4:30 p.m. Then there will be a panel discussion with MCHS alumni and area professionals from 5-6 p.m. to talk about their paths to their careers.

Then participants can enjoy music from DJ Jerardo and raffles. Food trucks from El Taco Feliz and La Pequeña Mariposa will be on hand selling tasty bites.

Otto Corzo, school social worker at McHenry High School and adviser to the Latin American Student Organization (LASO), said club members have reached out to school officials at Harvard, Jacobs, Cary-Grove, Woodstock, Richmond-Burton and other high schools to invite their students to attend.

“We think that the information being shared is good for all students, not just Latinos and not just McHenry,” Corzo said.

So far, a dozen people have confirmed they will be part of the Latin Career Expo panel. Corzo asks panelists to talk about their careers and how they got there, in terms of training and education.

The 12 panelists are:

  • Manny Anaya, 2021 graduate, business/auto detailing

  • Margarita Vargas Beltran, 2017 graduate, medical field

  • Arely Castilla, 2023 graduate, law

  • Nery Duran, 2017 graduate, fashion marketing

  • Cesar Lopez Graciano, 2017 graduate, engineer

  • Salma Hernandez, 2019 graduate, dental assistant

  • Odalys Landa, 2018 graduate, community outreach

  • Alexa Munoz, 12th-grader, future political science major Loyola University in Chicago

  • Jose Orduna, 2018 graduate, technology

  • Lorena Jaimes Rivera, application engineer and business owner

  • William Sarabia, 2017 graduate, software engineer

  • Oswaldo Tejeda, 2020 graduate, community outreach, Illinois Rep.Suzanne Ness

Corzo said he is hoping the event continues to grow each year. Here is the article in the Northwest Herald about last year’s event.
