The Sandy Nininger Award was created to honor the memory of Sandy Nininger, a charter member of the Ft. He was posthumously awarded the first Congressional Medal of Honor of the war. The Sandy Nininger Award is the highest award that can be given to a high school senior in Key Club.

The criteria for the award include:

Believing that all persons deserve to enjoy economic, athletic, social, and professional activities regardless of sex, race, or creed. Having a concern for others, respecting other students, and giving of his/herself to help others be better people.
