Last weekend, MCHS journalism students from newspaper and yearbook competed at the IHSA Journalism Sectional. Despite the challenges of being entirely remote for much of the year, students did well. Below is a list of students who placed in their categories.
- Rachel Kaminski (2nd in editorial cartooning, 4th in advertising)
- Josie Cable (3rd in editorial writing)
- Ciara Duncan (1st in feature writing)
- Jenna Ernst (1st in headline writing)
- Emma Snyder (2nd in news writing)
- Kyla Henige (6th in sports writing)
- Corissa Phannenstill (3rd in yearbook layout)
- Catherine Anderson and Yesenia Parra (5th in yearbook theme development)
Students who earned a spot in the top three will be attending the state tournament this weekend. This year, MCHS has six students competing at state, which is more than MCHS has ever brought to the tournament.
Additionally, the McHenry Messenger's news editor Emma Snyder has been added to the National Scholastic Press Association's Honor Roll. No student from MCHS has ever received this honor.
