Seal of Biliteracy

McHenry Community High School District 156 is pleased to announce the 2021-2022 recipients of the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy and Commendation for the Seal of Biliteracy. 

The Seal of Biliteracy is a public recognition of graduating students that demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English and at least one other language in the domains of listening, reading, speaking, and writing. The State Commendation toward Biliteracy is a public recognition given to graduating students who have demonstrated significant progress toward achieving a high level of proficiency in English and at least one other language in the domains of listening, reading, speaking, and writing. 

This year, the district awarded 11 seals and one commendation to the graduating class of 2022. They are: Anahi Castilla, Crystal DelMoral, Alexis Hernandez-Garcia, Daniela Hernandez-Mora, Alexis Hernandez-Olivares, Anna McLaughlin, Arly Perez, Samantha Perez Garcia, Irving Ruano, Grace Smith, and Tsi Tsi Ki Viveros Zarate earned a Seal of Biliteracy in English and Spanish. Also, Irving Ruano earned the Commendation toward Biliteracy in English and French. 

These students will have a gold seal affixed to their diplomas and notation on their transcripts as proof that they were awarded this honor. Each student will also wear a biliteracy recognition medal at graduation. 

Congratulations to all of our recipients. We are very proud of the hard work our students have done to strive for biliteracy, and we hope that this impressive accomplishment inspires all of our students to pursue education and usage of a second language.
