On Friday, students in our AVID11 elective class were experimenting with problem-solving and teamwork to "survive" the pitfalls and obstacles that come with junior year.
After the activity, students wrote personal "mantras" about resilience, teamwork, and communication that represented not only how they worked through the activity but also how they hope to handle the rest of the academic year and beyond.
Examples of mantras included:
"Together we can dodge the pitfalls."
"Balance the load. Keep moving. Stay together."
"No one can do it alone."
"Teamwork carries us across."

It was all fun and games during introduction to business class at Freshman Campus. Students had fun while applying the profit equation to the classic board game Monopoly. This is just one of the many hands-on learning activities students experience while taking a business class.

Mr. Jones' astronomy class built a scale model of the solar system. The students created posters for each planet, as well as a couple of dwarf planets and a few moons. All of the planets and moons have the correct size relative to the sun, which was modeled by a 60 cm exercise ball. All of the planets and dwarf planets are also the correct relative distance from the sun. In the second photo, Saturn is orange, the earth is blue, and Pluto is black. 🪐🌎🌕 ☀️

Congratulations to Jennifer Beattie and Emma Demilta! They completed the twelve-hour AVID strategies training. AVID is a 45-year-old national program that includes an elective class, where the goal is to help students achieve greater success in both the classroom and in their future. This is MCHS' third year as an AVID school.

During Friday's home basketball game, our community came together to celebrate our staff as well as support two McHenry businesses damaged by a fire in January. We also recognized McHenry Baseball Coach Brian Rockweiler's induction in the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association's Hall of Fame.
For the Riverside businesses -- Riverside Bakery and Reese's Barkery -- we helped raise at least $13,000 through Riverside Strong t-shirt and hoodie sales.
