AVID McHenry

Criteria

  • 2.0-3.5 GPA

  • First-generation student in family to attend college

  • Highly motivated

  • 40-60% National Standardized Testing English and Math

  • Application

  • Two letter of recommendation from eighth grade teachers

  • One group interview and one individual interview

Selection Process Timeline

  • October: information sent out to middle schools

  • November: receive recommendation letters from middle schools, informational meetings with students, Program Pitch Night

  • December: Recruitment Info Night, students submit applications

  • January- Student interviews, students are selected

What is AVID?

AVID stands for "Advancement Via Individual Determination." AVID is a career and college readiness elective offered to 9th-12th graders that targets students who are in the middle of the academic path. AVID students refine their skills in Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. Watch the video below to learn more!
