What is Dual Credit?
Dual credit courses are college-aligned and taught at MCHS by a qualified teacher. Students will receive both MCHS credit and McHenry County College (MCC) credit for successful completion (C or higher) of the course. This credit is transferable to most 2- and 4-year colleges and universities.
Access to Higher Education
Research shows that students who earn early college credit are more likely to attend college and more likely to be successful in postsecondary education.
Preparation Postsecondary college and career opportunities
Affordability Lowers the cost to obtain a 2- or 4- year degree
Accessibility Increases student access to college level courses
Cost to Students
When a student takes a dual credit course, they are also considered an official MCC student. MCC has agreements with its area high schools to offer classes at a discounted price. MCHS students will be assessed a $25 course fee for each dual credit course. This fee is assessed in the student’s MCC account.
Savings for Families
Even at $25 per course, dual credit courses offer our local families significant savings compared to taking the same courses on campus at MCC or a 4-year university.
Dual Credit at MCHS | Cost of MCC Course (3 hours) | Cost of an NIU Course (3 hours) |
---|---|---|
$25 per class | $350 | $1,360 |
Partnership with McHenry Rotary
McHenry High School has been a long-standing member supporting the McHenry Area Rotary and that organization has provided significant funding over the years to support MCHS students. McHenry Rotary will be providing a large donation to help offset the cost of dual credit courses for MCHS students.
Support McHenry Area Rotary
MCHS supports our local Rotary Club and we encourage our students and families to support that organization also. You can learn more about McHenry Rotary at https://www.mchenryarearotary.com/ and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/McHenryAreaRotary/
