SAT/PSAT Prep Information

How can I improve on the skills and prepare to get my best score on the SAT?

Students are encouraged to do the following things to improve and work towards getting their best score. 

  1. Take rigorous courses throughout your time at MCHS AND have a growth mindset!

  2. Practice SAT items weekly in your free Khan Academy account available through College Board.

  3. Enroll in the SAT Prep strategy course offered at MCHS each winter. 

  4. Sign up to take the SAT early in March of your junior year at MCHS. 

  5. Do your best on the April school day SAT your junior year. 

  6. Take the SAT again one more time if you want to get a better score.

MCHS encourages all students to prepare and improve. Our goal is for all students to get their best score. 

Why is the SAT Important?

  • The SAT is one of the the primary college entrance exams in the United States.

  • The SAT is one of the assessments used by Illinois to assess schools.

  • The SAT opens doors to many institutions and scholarships. 

  • The SAT assesses skills needed for college, workplace, military, and career.


How does MCHS use PSAT scores?

MCHS uses student PSAT scores for instructional planning, course placement, and to help students improve towards college and career readiness.
