Community tours for the new Center for Science, Technology and Industry

The state-of-the-art learning spaces at McHenry High School’s newly opened Center for Science, Technology and Industry will be on display this Saturday and Oct. 2 for community tours hosted by McHenry High School District 156.

From 1 to 3 p.m., visitors can get a look at the center’s new biomedical science lab, advanced manufacturing lab, environmental science center with a greenhouse, robotics lab, and much more. District leaders will be available to lead tours and explain the research and planning that went into the new center, along with the new technology and equipment.

For example, the new biomedical science lab includes an Anatomage table, a virtual 3D dissection system that allows students an inside look into the human body. McHenry High School is one of only a few high schools in the state to have this advanced teaching tool.

Other new features include a broadcast journalism center, a robotics lab, INCubatoredu classroom space, an advanced graphics lab, an advanced engineering lab and more. With the opening of the new center, McHenry High School is now completing the transition into one high school with Upper and Freshman campuses rather than two schools -- East and West.

“We are proud that every student who attends McHenry Community High School will have access to our amazing new facilities, lab spaces, and advanced curricular pathways,” said Dr. Ryan McTague, District 156 superintendent. “We are quickly becoming one of the most competitive and comprehensive high school districts in the area and the state.”

After Saturday, the next scheduled tour is 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 2. Earlier this month, District 156 officials dedicated the center to mark its completion and also the multimillion-dollar project to renovate existing buildings and facilities over the past three years.

Other facility improvements include new lighting, ceilings, flooring and lockers at the Freshman Campus, new tennis courts, a refurbished swimming pool, new parking lots, and a new college and career center at Upper Campus. Also, both buildings' HVAC systems were significantly improved, including the addition of an environment-friendly geothermal well system at the Freshman Campus.

“The future is bright for MCHS,” McTague said.
