McHenry High School District 156 school board members are naming the new college and career center at Upper Campus for Dr. Ryan McTague to recognize his work as superintendent to oversee the transformation of the high school’s facilities and programs.

Board members surprised McTague during a tour Sunday, Oct. 10 with Star 105.5 radio personality Tina Bree. School board President Dawn Bremer said naming the center for Dr. McTague not only honors his work advocating for a college and career center and programs at the Upper Campus, but also in overseeing a four-year journey to transform the schools.

As part of a $50 million renovation project, the Freshman Campus (formerly East Campus) was upgraded as was the former West Campus. A new Center for Science, Technology and Industry was recently completed to offer Upper Campus students access to state-of-the-art career training and educational lab spaces.

All of the changes led to a singular McHenry High School with a Freshman Campus and Upper Campus. Now each student has the same access to all of the renovated high school facilities.

“Ryan's mission was always to not only provide our school community with the very best facilities and resources but also ensure every student had equal access to our amazing courses and teachers,” Bremer said.

McTague said he was surprised and humbled by the honor. “I’m proud of all of our collective accomplishments,” McTague said. “The transformation of our district was very much a community effort.”
